Matthew Thomas Sommers, a native of Forrest City, IA, born on May 18, 1986, has carved a distinguished path as a pharmacist, medical writer, and editor. Currently a resident of Eagan, MN, he juggles the rigors of his professional commitments while being an affectionate father to his two young daughters and a loving spouse to his wife, Erica.
An insatiable quest marked his formative years for knowledge. He actualized this by graduating from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 2011. His academic pursuits did not stop at the university’s walls; instead, they fueled his dedication to evolve continuously within the pharmacy field. Over the past 12 years, he has gained hands-on clinical and managerial experience, concentrating especially on the intricacies of behavioral health management.
Professionally, he has always been open to challenges. This audacious spirit led him to open a pharmacy from the ground up—an endeavor that required tremendous courage and unwavering commitment. Yet his commitment to healthcare extends beyond his endeavors; as a preceptor, Matthew has been instrumental in grooming future pharmacists, offering them the mentorship needed to succeed in a complex healthcare landscape. Not just content with these roles, he has also channeled his expertise into medical writing and editing, aiming to proactively educate people about managing their healthcare.
His professional journey took another significant turn when he ventured into clinical work, zeroing in on behavioral health. This transition exemplifies his nimble ability to adapt and delve into new facets of healthcare, showcasing his relentless quest to enhance his knowledge and the scope of his practice.
On the home front, Sommers’s life revolves around his family. He married Erica, the woman who completes him, on September 3, 2016. Together, they nurture their two daughters, emphasizing the importance of a loving family. For him, the titles he cherishes most are not those earned through degrees or career milestones but the ones that tie him to his family: that of a dedicated husband and a doting father.
